Ronald Reagan, A Godly President Who Precipitated The Collapse Of Communism

Ronald Reagan, a great President, had a documentary about his life and presidency shown on PBS. Watched it with awe. For a public station perceived as leaning to the left, that was a nice documentary, hardly showing any bias or misinformation.

Thanks to God for Ronald Reagan for hastening the demise of Communism. Being an anti-communist ever since he was the president of the Screen Actor's Guild, his policies reflected his belief that the "Focus of Evil" must not succeed in its spread across Central America, Asia, and Africa.

Sometimes going against his advisers, he pushed toward negotiations with Mikhail Gorbachev that would eliminate intermediate-range missiles. Widely labeled by the liberal media as a war hawk and misunderstood by the right as a pawn by the Soviets, Gorbachev and Reagan signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) on December 8, 1987.

The treaty eliminated nuclear and conventional ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with intermediate ranges, defined as between 500-5,500 km (300-3,400 miles). By the treaty's deadline of June 1, 1991, a total of 2,692 of such weapons had been destroyed, 846 by the U.S. and 1,846 by the Soviet Union. Under the treaty both nations were allowed to inspect each others' military installations.

But the one big factor that the press wouldn't credit as a big contributing factor toward sending communism into the "ash heap of history" is the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), which the liberal derisively christened "Star Wars". The knee-jerk reaction by the Soviets was one of fear. They knew that economically, they couldn't compete with the US but as a matter of policy, they have to keep up. The Star Wars pushed the Soviet Union into an economic slide.

It wouldn't be long before the sad state of the Russian economy compelled them to bargain with Reagan. His "peace through strength" stance which horrified anti-war activists took its toll.

Fast forward into Christmas of 1991, Gorbachev dissolved the Soviet Union. A series of events unfolded prior to this event(the Berlin Wall fell down, Poland and other Eastern communism' downfall) and later on, the democratization of the Russian government.

Who would have thought that this second rate actor who starred in a slew of forgettable B movies would have caused all of these? When he was acting in those movies, he was acting out. When he became President, he wasn't acting. He was living his deeply held convictions - love of country, love of God, a deep belief about the American character and exceptionalism. And boy! was he a first rate President!
